Multiple Sclerosis Care

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that impacts the central nervous system (CNS), specifically the brain and spinal cord. This condition leads to the immune system mistakenly attacking the protective covering of nerve fibers, called myelin. The damage disrupts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body, causing a range of physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms.

Understanding
Multiple Sclerosis

The exact cause of MS remains unknown, but it is widely accepted that a combination of genetic and environmental factors plays a role. Research suggests that factors contributing to MS development may include:

  1. Genetics: Individuals with a family history of MS are more susceptible, although MS is not directly inherited.

  2. Immune System Abnormalities: MS is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks its own healthy tissues, leading to myelin degradation.

  3. Environmental Factors: Low vitamin D levels, smoking, and certain viral infections (like Epstein-Barr virus) are linked to increased MS risk.

  4. Geographical Factors: People living farther from the equator have a higher incidence of MS, suggesting environmental and lifestyle factors influence the disease.
